Discussing my desire to work as a proofreader with D got the point across. He understood the importance of keeping up with the requirements of a job, making sure that you know what they are in the first place, and that you know at least in a general way where you're aiming career-wise.
I'm not claiming that he's doing anything with that understanding but I know by his comments and questions that he got it.
