This looks perfect for D, I think it fulfills most of the requirements of what he likes to do. On sciencetrack is advertised a Microcontroller engineering science kit. It combines his robot interest, his programming interest, and his building and experimenting fascination! These are the kind of things I prefer spending money on; when I can't care about money very much, these things remind me why it's worth working for. I love finding the perfect thing to give someone, especially my own angels!
